Eva Dorothy Pugh “Dot” to many of her friends and “Eve” to others was born on 9 August 1913 in Tenbury Wells in Worcestershire. Dot was the fourth of 5 children of Frederick and Margaret Bebbington. Her brothers and sisters were Frederick, Elsie Edith and Enid. Dot grew up in Worcestershire and worked as a housemaid to the Ingleby family. It was here that she met her husband to be Ernest Pugh. Ernest was a gentleman’s gentleman and later became a farm manager. It was whilst working on the farm that only child Ann was born. Ann met and married Ron. Because of Ron’s career in the RAF they moved home a good number of times. Dot moved to KIdderminster and after the death of husband Ernest she lived alone for many years. Dot was very fond of gardening and she tended her large garden with loving care to such an extent that people would call at the house and ask to look round the “grounds” as they were of such a professional standard. When Ann and Ron moved to Spain twelve years ago Dot visited with the intention of staying just one month but she stayed and lived nearby from 2004. When Dot became ill she moved into a home in Cartagena but Dot’s lack of Spanish and consequent inability to communicate easily made this a difficult time. During this time Dot was being cared for by various staff but especially Mary. Fortunately for Dot Mary spoke some English and a strong friendship developed. Mary took Dot into her own home and nursed her. Dot became Mary and family’s adopted grandmother and Ann and Ron tell me the arrangement couldn’t have worked better. Mary, Valley and their son Edward gave Dot the best care possible and Ann and Ron asked me to express their deep gratitude to the family for the loving care given to Dot. This care extended to taking Dot out on day trips including a sail round Cartagena harbour on the Barco Touristico. Dot loved Spain living near her daughter, son in law and dog. Dot would sit on her terrace watching the world go by. Dot outlived all her brothers and sisters reaching the amazing age of 96. Besides her daughter Ann, Dot leaves two grandchildren Adrian and Alison and four great grandchildren Amber, Graham, Jeanette and Deborah.
